Coliseum Group, owner of the Sports Café chain, announced that it would open a further five venues by the end of this year, with three more planned for the end of 2005. The news came as the company reported a 22% increase in sales to £7.8m for the year ended 31 December. The group’s operating loss fell by 35% to £707,000, with ebitda up for £526,000 from £66,000 in the previous year. Average weekly turnover at the group’s three sites - in London, Birmingham and Manchester – was £57,830. Ian Lenagan, the company’s chairman said: "Coliseum traded well during 2003 and has made an excellent start to 2004, with like-for-like sales up significantly and events such as Euro 2004 and the Olympics still to come. "With the opening earlier this month of the Glasgow Sports Café and the progress made on our portfolio of other new sites, I look forward to the future with great optimism."
