AC Nielsen has warned English pubs to expect beer sales to drop by 4% after the introduction of next month’s smoking ban. Pubs will sell 200m fewer pints over the next year as smokers drink at home instead. English pub chains have improved their food offerings, refurbished their pubs and some have installed “smoking shelters” in pub gardens to lure smokers back to their premises.
