A Chinese takeaway in Derbyshire is to take over as the village post office following the closure of the previous site.

China Rice restaurant, in Walton-on-Trent, plans to install a counter service from December.

The takeaway has already taken over evening newspaper deliveries, following the closure of a local newsagents.

Mandy Two, the restaurant’s owner, said: "A lot of elderly people relied on the old Post Office, which closed in August. We are the only shop left in the village and felt it was important to take on the business to prevent them for becoming isolated."
