Health Secretary Andrew Lansley has cut the amount of reporting back that food companies would have to participate in if they took part in the Government’s scheme to cut five billion calories a day from the nation’s diet. According to M&C Report’s sister publication The Grocer, the new calories pledge lists a range of options companies would be expected to carry out, from reformulation of products to marketing campaigns, to encourage healthier eating. However, the Department of Health has downscaled the monitoring process so companies only have to file annual reports rather than the regular updates originally mooted.
