A pub landlord is having his pub reclassified as an embassy to escape the effects of the new smoking ban. Bob Beech of the Wellington Arms in Southampton has a regular customer who is an official diplomat from he tiny island of Redonda in the West Indies. With the permission of the island’s ruler, he is to make the pub his country’s official UK consulate. As such, British laws will not apply on the premises and drinks will be free of VAT.
