Bars in Manchester’s gay village are struggling as the pink pound moves into more fashionable “straight” parts of town. A decline in homophobia and the use of internet dating has meant there is no longer the demand for the gay ghetto of Canal Street that there once was. The Times says there are too many bars trying to attract a diminishing number of customers and the big breweries are shipping out. Pubs have been changing hands at a bewildering pace.
