The 292-strong Orchid Group has appointed former Manchester City and Wembley National Stadium chairman David Bernstein non-executive chairman. Bernstein led Manchester City from League Division Two back to the Premiership as chairman from 1998 to 2003. He has also acted as chairman for Blacks Leisure, French Connection and Sports and Leisure. In addition he was joint managing director of Pentland Group and is currently on the boards of Carluccios and Ted Baker. “Orchid is at a significant stage in its development, and I’m incredibly excited to be part of it," said Bernstein. "I intend to work closely with the management team to ensure the continuation of Orchid’s success and to help the company fulfill its ambitious growth plans.” Orchid chief executive Rufus Hall added: “David brings a successful track record and his experience will strengthen the Orchid board as the company moves forward with the next phase of development.” The Orchid Group owns brands including The Living Room, Ultimate Leisure and Bar Room Bar as well as a collection of individual pubs, restaurants, bars and clubs.
