Pubs, hotels and restaurants are being urged to prepare for sharp price increases across a wide range of food and drink staples. Buying expert Lynx Purchasing said that extreme weather and poor harvests, both in the UK and around the world, would lead to higher prices being imposed by suppliers. It warned that unless caterers can lock-in pricing deals now, they face seeing their margins eroded in the run up to the peak Christmas trading period, and into 2013. John Pinder, Lynx Purchasing managing director, said: “At the moment, there seems to be more bad news about global food supplies every day. Pubs, restaurants and hotels are gearing up for their busiest trading period of the year, and the certainty they need on both price and quality is hard to find.”
