Publicans in Ayrshire are finding that their taking are being boosted by Norwegian visitors since Ryanair launched budget flights between Prestwick and Norway.

Ayrshire and Arran Tourist Board said that it had noted an increase in trade, as Norwegians enjoyed prices below the averages £5.50 a pint found in Oslo.

Elaine Gilmour, the manager of the Tree House pub in Ayr, said: "We've had a lot of foreigners in. They always ask for the local beers and the 70/- has been selling well, as has the Guinness. The weekend of the Ayr Gold Cup we were packed out, it was a great few days and we were open until 12.30 every night."
