Blackwood Distillers, which is converting an abandoned RAF base in the Shetland Isles into a whisky distillery, is preparing for a £30m London market flotation. Chief executive Caroline Whitfield, who started Blackwood in 2002, will use the cash to continue international expansion in China and America. Blackwood already sells high-end specialised spirits in 34 countries. Products include Diva Vodka and Jago Strawberry Love, a cream and vodka cocktail. Its whisky will not go into barrels until April next year, with the first bottled in 2010. But next month Whitfield will launch an online whisky futures platform to let individuals reserve and trade bottles before they are ready. The Independent on Sunday 21/05/06 (Business) pages 4 & 13
