MWB Group, the operator of the Hotel du Vin and Malmaison hotel, has completed the sales and leasebacks of five of its hotels for a combined total of £102.9m. The proceeds of the deal have been used to reduce Malmaison's debt by approximately £100m to £180m. The hotels that formed the sales and leasebacks programme were located in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle and Aberdeen. Under the terms of the transaction the hotels have been leased back on the equivalent of 70-year leases and will continue to operated under the Malmaison brand. Earlier this year, the group said it continued to be in discussions with a number of parties regarding the sale and leaseback or outright sale of a number of its hotel assets, as it looks to reduce its debt levels. It said it continued to operate within the terms of the existing facilities.
