Ninety-three per cent of children aged between 10 and 15 have been sold alcohol illegally in pubs, clubs and shops, according to a new study. Almost 2,500 youngsters at 300 state schools across England Wales were quizzed. Teenagers from affluent middle-class homes were the most likely to drink frequently and behave while drunk in way they would later regret. Fathers' drinking habits particularly influenced their children's behaviour. Up to one in four schoolchildren had drunk themselves unconscious and drinking accounts for a third of truancy in some parts of the UK. Sixty per cent of 14-year-old girls admitted to losing their virginity while drunk. The Observer 09/07/06 page 19
