London mayor Ken Livingstone hopes to provide training for workers in the capital’s hospitality and leisure sectors as part of a £14m spend over the next two years to market the capital as a tourism attraction to the world.

He has appointed Tamara Ingram, chairwoman and chief executive of the Mcann Erickson advertising agency, to lead the London Tourist Board.

She is working closely with the mayor’s office to come up with a pre-Christmas marketing campaign. A new company, which Livingstone will co-ordinate, will be established next April. Visitor numbers to London and expenditure dropped a tenth last year.
