Marston’s, the brewer and pub operator, is to open its first three new build pubs in Scotland next Spring. The sites will open at the Braehead Shopping Centre in Glasgow; on Spott Road in Dunbar; and on the Shawfair Business Park in Edinburgh. Marston’s, which is seen as the UK’s largest builder of pubs, has earmarked more than £300m for its new build pub development programme. At the company’s half-year trading results in May, chief executive Ralph Findlay said Marston’s said it’s on track to open a further 25 new builds this financial year. On the prospect of opening sites in Scotland, Findlay told M&C Report at the time: “I think there’s as an good opportunity there as in other parts [of Britain].” He added that Marston’s was “fixated on quality rather than quantity” when it came to new builds, adding: “What matters to me in the long run is getting right sites in right locations.”
