Market Town Taverns, the Yorkshire based pub retailer, has bought three new free-of-tie sites, bringing its estate up to 14 ale and wine bars, writes Gemma McKenna. The sites include one in Knaresborough that is currently trading and two sites in development in Leeds. The Mitre in Knaresborough, listed in the Good Beer Guide, has four letting bedrooms and a separate restaurant/function suite. Former wine bar the Waterhole has been closed for more than two years. The centrally located pub will be extensively refurbished over the next three months. The third site is in new build retail development, The Becketts, in the north Leeds suburb of Meanwood. This shell unit will be fitted out prior to re-opening in October or November. Ian Fozard, managing director, said: “We’re having a successful year with profits likely to be well up on last year, and feel confident about the future for our niche offer in our core trading area.” Market Town Taverns’ turnover is around £5m pa.
