The Local Government Association (LGA) has warned the shake-up of licensing laws will put the court system under strain. Pubs and clubs are bombarding local authorities that are refusing to allow them to open late, according to a confidential LGA briefing document. The LGA says it wants to raise the fees pubs and clubs are charged to get a licence so that town halls are not forced to raise council tax to cover the extra costs involved in implementing the new licensing regime.
