A Kerala Court in India has lifted the communist government’s ban on the sale and manufacture of Pepsi and Coca-Cola. But the two US companies still face partial bans, particularly in schools, hospitals and other government buildings in five or six other Indian states. The ban was instigated on August 11 after the revival of a long-running pesticide scare which marketing consultants said was just “populist brand-trashing” by politicians drying to whip up hostility to western multinationals as well as opportunistic campaigns tactics by non-government organisations.
