A judge has attacked 24-hour drinking after jailing three men that left a man blind in one eye. The court head how brothers Luke Newman, 27, and Oliver Clark, 24, and friend Benjamin Hammond, 25 had admitted grievous bodily harm against Mark Parkinson in June last year. Jailing each defendant for the two years, Judge Anthony Thorpe, sitting at Chicester Crown Court, condemned extended drinking hours. He said: “I have not the slightest doubt that late-night drinking is at the root of this violence and I just wish those argued that all-night drinking would improve the criminal behaviour of young men, and indeed often young women, would come and see the results that judge see every day.”
