Jongleurs, the comedy club group, is in talks to open its first site in the US, M&C Report has learnt. The group, which is led by founder Maria Kempinska, is in the final stages of agreeing terms on a venue in New York that it plans to open later this year. Shows at the new venue will be hosted by British comedian Gina Yashere and a number of comedians are believed to have already contacted Jongleurs about performing there. Kempinska told M&C Report: “This is a really exciting development for our business, not only have we achieved phenomenal growth in the UK, we are confident that the Jongleurs name can travel across the pond and we are now making British comedy great in New York. “We have secured a venue and we’re in the final throws of agreeing terms. We know the American’s love our sense of humour, great British comedy is universal – so what better time than now to integrate our acts into the American scene along with a few big names of their own.” The company currently operates around 20 venues and comedy nights across the UK, which includes partnerships with nightclub operator Luminar and a number of venue launches under its franchise agreement with Momo Leisure. In March, Jongleurs said it planned to open a further eight sites across the UK as it extended its link up with Luminar.
