The freehold of an island fort has become the seventh site formerly operated by Von Essen Hotels, which fell into administration in April, to be sold. Christie + Co handled the sale of Thorn Island, a Grade II Listed Napoleonic Fort off the coast of Pembrokeshire for an undisclosed sum to Kent Mushrooms Ltd, owners of other historical locations including the renowned Chislehurst Caves in Kent. The agent said it received 12 bids for the property. It’s believed that the majority of the remaining 21 von Essen hotels that have yet to be completed are under negotiation. Von Essen was placed into administration after its failure to meet the required interest payments.
