Inventive Leisure reported a 1.6% increase in like-for-like sales for the first 22 weeks of the year, describing marketing conditions as ‘more stable than we have seen for some time’. Like-for-like sales in the eight weeks since then were up 2.3%, with a ‘modest abatement’ in deep discounting noted in recent weeks. The company’s new Vodka Kitchen food brand saw year-on-year sales rise 48%. In the year to date, the proportion of Inventive’s turnover derived from food sales was 5.0%, compared to 3.8% in the prior year. At the Revolution brand, the company announced that it had acquired a new site in Manchester city centre, which is due to open in Spring next year. The group aims to have 40 units under the brand by the year-end. John Green, the company’s chairman, welcomed the transitional period before changes to smoking in public places have to be made, saying that it would ‘afford the industry an opportunity for further consultation and clarification’.
