Illusions, the operators of magic bars, has confirmed plans to open its first venue offering a dedicated stand-up magic performance. M&C Report revealed in July that the company is close to completing on a Scottish & Newcastle Pub Company lease for the Bunch of Grapes in Bristol, which it plans to convert to a concept called Smoke & Mirrors. Illusions have now confirmed plans to open the site on 10 October. The company said: “Our rebrand makes room for a different type of magic show. With a separate theatre large enough to accommodate at least 50 people, we are able to offer our customers the chance to see some of the world’s greatest magic shows in an intimate but electric setting. “True to our style the entertainment does not stop there. With a white baby grand piano situated in the bar area, we will also continue to regularly offer our customers great live music.” Illusions founder Mark Bennett said: “I’m very excited about our new venture. The aim is to give the public what they have asked for. We are very happy that we are expanding in Bristol which has been our home for five years.” Illusions was reduced to one site last year after the landlord of its Manchester venue declined to renew the lease. The first Illusions, in Bristol, opened five years ago and was named Best Entertainment Pub in the 2009 Great British Pub Awards. The company has previously examined opening in London, Bath, Cardiff, Torquay and Brighton.
