Simon Heffer, in his weekly column in The Daily Telegraph, suggests swingeing taxes on the likes of Bacardi Breezers and Smirnoff Ice in the battle to stamp out decadent behaviour by young women. He says no remotely civilised person he knows would ever dream of touching “such vile concoctions”. He makes the comment in the context of concerns that the forthcoming ban on smoking in pubs in England will have another side-effect – making them binge drink instead. He says at least women who smoke don’t lie drunkenly in gutters in pools of vomit. The Daily Telegraph 08/04/06 page 21 (Simon Heffer on Saturday)
