Rank Group reported that sales at its Hard Rock cafes were improving, although this was offset by subdued trading at its provincial gaming outlets. Like-for-like sales were up 3% in the year so far at Hard Rock cafes, which had previously suffered in the face of a downturn in international tourism. At its AGM on Tuesday, the company said: "As we approach the important summer season, we are more positive than we have been in recent years about the full year prospects for the (Hard Rock) business. "We remain cautious at this early stage about the outlook for the full year partly because of the seasonality of a number of our businesses and also because of the mixed financial performance to date." Despite the poor performance in gaming, Rank said that it was confident that changes to gambling laws in the United Kingdom would be positive for the group.
