Fourth Hospitality, the software supplier to pubs, restaurants and hotels, is to launch a mobile version of its StarChef software, which will help operators drive consistency and cost control. The company said that StarChef Light will allow hospitality and foodservice groups to access the web-based recipe tool in or out of the kitchen via a kitchen display unit, PC, iPhone, iPad and all other smartphone and tablet devices. The mobile version also provides real time pictures, costings, recipes and nutritional data to multiple sites, meaning that the information can be displayed on a mobile device or through in-restaurant screens with ease – saving time, money and reducing the reliance on paper and food manuals. Catherine Iredale, communications director for Fourth Hospitality, believes that the mobile initiative will accelerate restaurant groups’ use of web-based menu management and possible signal the death-knell for the back-of-house menu manual. She said: “StarChef Light gives extra flexibility and simplified, wider access to users of our StarChef recipe management system. The ability for users to access all of the core recipe and nutritional information in real-time has a multitude of benefits for users. “It will enable hospitality groups to have complete control over their operation while saving time and money, particularly on the now unnecessary production, printing and distribution of those weighty recipe manuals that we have all come to know and love.”
