The fast food sector is winning over consumers by introducing healthier snacks and coming clean over the dangers of over-indulging. McDonald’s, which serves 52m people every day in its 31,000 restaurants worldwide, has raised its game by introducing salads and cutting harmful transfats. Sales have grown by 10% in the last two years. Yum, whose brands include Pizza Hut, KFC and Taco Bell, has seen a 12% rise in earnings per share in the same period. Pizza Hut now offers low-carb pizzas and is working on a salt substitute, while the company no longer tries to claim its food is healthy enough to eat every day.
