London club Soho House is to take over the famous Morton’s venue in west Hollywood, where the most exclusive post-Oscar parties are held. The lease has already been signed and a $5m (£2.5m) refurbishment is to start in the New Year. By the end of 2008 it will be operating as a private member’s club. The original club above the Café Royale in London’s Greek street opened in 1995 and has since grown into a global brand with an internationally famous annual film festival party in Cannes and clubs in New York, Miami and now Hollywood -- as well as a Babington House in Frome, Somerset and other London clubs in Shoreditch and Notting Hill. A second venue in Miami is under construction and there are plans for developments in Berlin, Madrid and Istanbul. The Independent 19/5/07 page 20
