A former Beefeater pub in Oxfordshire has been sold to the burger giant McDonald's for an undisclosed sum.

The pub, owned by Morrell's of Oxford, had been leased to Whitbread until November last year and run as a Beefeater pub/restaurant.

Peter Large, Morrells' commercial director, said: "The location of the Carpenters Arms has meant that for many years it has been operated as a restaurant rather than a public house.

"Since Whitbread decided to hand it back in November last year we have been considering its future. This is a prominent site ... but not for a liquor-led pub."
