The Royalist Hotel in Stow-on-the-Wold in Gloucestershire has been sold for an undisclosed figure from an asking price of £1.85m. The Grade II Listed building ranks among the top 4% of protected buildings in the country and is certified as the oldest inn in England, dating from 947 AD. The site, which was sold through Christie and Co, has been bought by Peter Rowan, who also owns Ralegh's Cross Hotel, a 16th Century former coaching inn on Exmoor. Rowan has hired David Sargent, recently of Marco Pierre-White's Mirabelle Restaurant, in London, as the new head chef.
