West Country pubs with rooms operator Eatdrinksleep Ltd. has secured its third site, a 14-bedroom pub in the Cornish coastal village of Mousehole. The company has taken the Old Coastguard on a 20 year lease from a private landlord for an undisclosed sum. The venture will be a partnership with the Tresco Estate, owner of the Island Hotel and Hell Bay on the Scilly Isles. Edmund Inkin, who runs Eatdrinksleep with his brother Charles, said there “won’t be a substantial refurb” at the Old Coastguard, but he expects minor refurbishments including some paintwork. The company operates two other free-of-tie leasehold pubs, the Felin Fach Griffin in Hay-on-Wye, Herefordshire, and the Gurnard’s Head in St Ives, Cornwall. Edmund said the company is not looking for rapid expansion and doesn’t expect to add any sites within the next couple of years. “If the right site comes up and we are ready we might do something but we’re not out hunting for sites,” he said. “We are so excited to be taking on a building with such enormous potential. It will take a little time to work with the existing team to make The Coastguard as we would like it, but it is the kind of challenge we absolutely relish. This is an opportunity to make The Old Coastguard a destination in itself for proper British seaside holidays.”
