Eat, the sandwich shop chain, has teamed up with Orange for the launch of the mobile phone operator’s first contactless retail reward scheme in the UK. As part of the link up customers can use NFC-enabled handsets to get Quick Tap Treats like a free baguette or piece of fruit from one of Eat’s sites. The “Treats”, which will be available to approximately 200,000 customers from launch in early March, work by customers scanning their NFC-enabled phone on specially designed posters that activate a game on their device that allows them to win a voucher. Eat, which operates c130 sites, has already partnered with Orange for the operator's mobile payments scheme called Quick Tap. Orange chief marketing officer Pippa Dunn said: “Last year we started a whole new movement in the way consumers make payments on the high street, and with Quick Tap Treats, we're continuing this with a new and innovative way for our customers to receive rewards for their loyalty. So whether it’s a free coffee on the way into work, or a free baguette at lunchtime, you really do get more with you mobile on Orange.”
