Matthew Hill has been appointed as interim chief executive of Drinkaware Trust, the independent charity launched to promote responsible drinking. Hill, who has been working as a senior civil servant for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, will be responsible for overseeing the separation from the Portman Group. He replaces Jean Coussins, the combined group’s former chief executive, who has left the group after ten years to “working on other things”. Although Hill has already started working part-time for the trust, he will not take up a full-time role until November. The new interim chief executive’s main role will be to manage the appointment of the 13 independent trustees and to recruit the permanent chief executive.
