The Roofie Foundation, which helps victims of drink-spiking, has welcomed the imprisonment of an unlicensed pub doorman who spiked a woman’s drink so he could have sex with her. Michael Wright, 36, was jailed for five years. He met his victim, 23, who was enjoying a night out with friends in Newcastle upon Tyne in April and they went to a bar where he tipped chemical gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) into her glass. The woman collapsed and was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition. Wright has been banned for ten years from working as a doorman or barman under a sexual offences prevention order. The woman works in a management position in the pub industry. The Times 24/12/05 page 7
