The Government will claim the liberalisation of Britain’s drinking laws have resulted in a “significant” decrease in alcohol-related violence this week when Charles Clarke, the Home Secretary, presents new figures to Parliament. The figures,  due to be released on Thursday, will show the number of “serious violent incidents” identified by police in the weeks leading up to Christmas and the new year were 25% down on the same period in 2004.
