Domino's Pizza UK and Ireland has set its sights on 1,000 outlets over the next 10 to 15 years, nearly five times the number it has now.

It plans organic growth but the company is not averse to bids for rival outlets.

The 215-strong chain reported annual pre-tax profit up 61.8% to £2.2m on turnover up 27% to £32.5m.

It attributed an 18% increase in like-for-like sales during January to the success of its first national terrestrial television advertising campaign.

This was designed to support the launch of HeatWave, a rubber disc which retains heat so pizzas are hot on delivery.

Sales during the first eight weeks of the year climbed 30.9%.

Domino's opened 22 new outlets last year. Franchises account for 184 of its units.
