Drinking in the street should be banned across Britain, according to delegates at the British Medical Association’s annual conference. The doctors are expected to call for the ban next week as part of the fight against binge drinking. They will also propose an increase in the minimum age for buying alcohol to 21 (except in pubs and hotels) and further tax increases and advertising restrictions. The measures come as scientists at University College, London warned that warnings against binge drinking are being ignored by those in lower income groups and that government campaigns were having little effect.
