Costa Coffee, the Whitbread-owned coffee chain, has opened its 2,000th store worldwide with a new site in central Leeds. Its new store, is Leeds Briggate, is the first store outside London with the new look ‘Metropolitan’ design, which offers a more modern design and a greater focus on attracting city workers. Since March 2011 Costa has opened 145 stores around the world, including stores in China and India, and is planning to open around 300 stores worldwide this year; it current operates in 25 countries. Costa plans to operate 3,500 stores globally by 2015/16. John Derkach, managing director of Costa, said: “Costa is enjoying fantastic growth both in the UK and overseas. We’re delighted to have reached this milestone of 2000 stores around the world as we strive to make Costa the world’s favourite coffee shop brand.”
