A crack police squad has been set up to carry out spot checks and make sure that restaurants are not selling black market caviar. It will be led by Inspector Nevin Hunter, of the Devon and Cornwall force, who has won awards for his work to protect endangered species. He is training around 20 wildlife inspectors who will use DNA techniques when they visit repackaging centres, restaurants and shops. They will investigate “caviar-laundering” and look out for people smuggling in caviar without a licence. The Mail on Sunday 28/09/08 page 7
