Coca-Cola has promoted Muhtar Kent, its current chief of international operations, to president and chief operating officer. Kent, who will take responsibility for the company’s worldwide operating units, takes up the position left open by Steve Heyer, after he became chief executive of Starwood Hotels & Resorts in 2004. It is believed that Kent’s promotion makes him favourite to eventually succeed Neville Isdell as chairman and chief executive of the soft drinks group.
