Private clubs will no longer be allowed to ban women from using certain dining rooms and bars under a new Single Equality Act being drawn up by the Government, which will make it unlawful to discriminate on the grounds of sex. However, Ministers shied away from an all-out clash with clubs, which only admit male or female members.
