Fears of a new date rape danger have arisen after a woman claimed she was raped after smoking a drugged cigarette. The woman said she was on a night out in South London when a recent acquaintance offered her a cigarette. Days later, she began having recollections surrounding the evening and subsequently went to the Dartford’s Renton Clinic at Darent Valley Hospital. Staff there concluded she had been the victim of a spiked cigarette nicknamed "fry", "dank" and "wet ones" among other things in the US. The woman had not been drinking. Assailants soak cigarettes in embalming fluid so that when smoked, victims are subject to hallucinations, delusions, toxic psychosis and sometimes become unconscious. The cigarettes are sometimes laced with PCP, and can be lethal. Symptoms are instant but short-lived, so much so that many believe they are used to encourage women to drink spiked beverages, which have longer lasting effects. The cigarettes themselves smell like petrol and taste like rubbing alcohol when smoked.
