Children as young as 11 are drinking up to five pints of beer a week, according to a new study by the NHS Information Centre. The amount of alcohol drunk by 11 to 13 year olds has doubled in five years from just under six units a week to more than 10. However, almost half of the children said they had never drunk alcohol. The overall indication was that fewer children were drinking, but those who did take alcohol were drinking more.
