Italian restaurant and deli chain Carluccio’s is being tipped as a good bet for investors. In May its sales had risen 20% to £25.9m in the first half of the year, while underlying pre-tax profits had risen 28% to £2.5m. Trading since the end of the first half had been ahead of the previous year and new site openings for the company helped drive growth. Shares are trading at 37 times forecast earnings and were trading at around 223p this week. Richard Caring, owner of London’s The Ivy restaurant, has recently increased his stake in the chain and may be considering a bid. The Daily Telegraph 16/6/07 page Y6 (Questor, Money)
