London restaurants have topped the polls at the first-ever Best Dishes Awards, held at Bermondsey’s Delfina restaurant. The inaugural event was dedicated to finding the best examples of the UK’s most popular meals. Of the 13 categories, 11 winners were based in London and the South East. Among them were Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen, which took the a pasta award for its lightest potato gnocchi and oxtail alla vaccinara dish, and Hakkasan, whose XO silver cod triumphed in the Oriental category. Just two winners – curry category winner Geisha in Nottingham and Oscar’s French Bistro in Leamington Spa, which was judged best for steak and chips – were located outside of the region.
