The Czech brewer Budvar, which has been in dispute with the giant American brewer Anheuser-Busch for many years over the brand names Bud and Budweiser, is to launch its beer in the United States under the brand name Czechvar.

Budvar and A-B, the owner of Budweiser, are currently in over 40 legal battles over the Bud trademark. A-B's CEO, Stephen Burrows, said he had no objections to Budvar selling its beer in the United States under a different name.

However, he said in a statement that the Czech brewer had no rights to the Budweiser or Bud trademarks in the United States and A-B would protect the trademarks against any attempt by Budvar or anyone else who attempted to infringe upon them.
