More British women are turning to drink as bars and clubs do a roaring trade. They are now officially the biggest drinkers in Europe, consuming an average of 30 units, or five bottles of wine, a week. Foreign women, not used to the drinking culture, are also getting sucked into boozy sessions. One reason is that Britain, unlike the US with its coffee shops, provides few alternatives to bars.
