Rose wine has shed its Seventies image, with sales growing by 50% annually. The total rose market is now worth £330m and Tesco has doubled its range to 60 varieties, although wine aficionados now prefer to refer to it as "blush" to distance it from the "Mateus Rose days". But the renewed interest is putting further pressure on beer producers, already hit by the resurgent cider market following the massive advertising campaign by Magners and Bulmers.
