Baskin-Robbins, the world's biggest ice cream chain store, will open its first Shanghai outlet by the end of 2008. The chain has announed plans to open 50 stores in Shanghai, the neighboring provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang and in the northwestern province of Shaanxi, over the next five years. Shaanxi Stellerich Food & Restaurant Company will open the 50 shops under license from the US retailer. Retail sales in China, an economy that's grown more than 10% for 10 straight quarters, rose 23% in June – the fastest rate since 1999. Baskin-Robbins chief brand officer Srinivas Kumar said: ``The world's biggest market, apart from the U.S., is going to be China.”
