A bunch of men who meet once a month in the Briton's Protection pub, Manchester, to discuss their favourite books over a few pints have won the Penguin/Orange Reading Group Prize. Their submission to the judges was titled "Real Ale, Real Books, Real Men". The group, calling themselves The Racketeers, named Waterland by Graham Swift as their favourite novel, followed by Graham Greene's The Honorary Consul and Brick Lane by Monica Ali.
