Yelp, the US-based restaurant review website, is planning on a major expansion of its presence here in the UK. The website – which works in a similar vein to TripAdvisor, the travel related review site – is looking to employ what it calls community managers here in the UK. The business, which is headquartered in San Francisco, hopes that by employing community managers for each of the country’s major towns and cities it will drive traffic to its site – which is of yet to make a credible impact in the UK. The site, which was founded in 2004 by an ex employee of Paypal, has 30 million visitors. However, its usage has been controversial with one restaurant in the US suing saying that a rival had placed bad reviews on the site.
